Comic Connection: Orb Comics Eco Wars: Jak and Daxter
Eco Wars is a fan-made comic book from the United Kingdom-based company Orb Comics that retells key plot points of Jak and Daxter and Jak II.
Welcome back to Comic Connection. A series where we compare the art and direction of a comic series to a video game. In this edition, we look at Eco Wars from Orb Comics and how it reworks the Jak and Daxter series.
Eco Wars is a fan-made comic book from the United Kingdom-based company Orb Comics. The recently released first issue of Eco Wars takes the familiar characters and environments of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and Jak 2 (also known as Jak 2: Renegade outside of North America) and rewrites some of the key plot lines of the first two entries in the series. The comic was created by Daniel Noah, who worked as the writer, letterer, and took the lead on the comic layout as well. Jason Johnson, Nimesh Morarjo, and Robert Williams joined the team as the Illustrator, Colorist, and Designer, respectively.

Fans of the series will enjoy a look back at familiar characters and environments from the PlayStation 2 series, while also seeing how the plotline changes from what we know in the games. Legacy characters: Jak, Daxter, Samos, Kiera, Torn, and others return in the comic book. Environments that fans are familiar with include Samos’s Hut, Sandover Village, and the Forbidden Jungle from Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy. Gamers will also recognize the Eco Chamber in Baron Praxis’s palace and Hip Hog Heaven Saloon from Jak 2.
Where things really change between the game and this comic (without getting into any heavy plot spoilers) is how Daxter ends up becoming the Ottsel form of himself and how Jak gets involved with the Underground rebellion.
Reading the Eco Wars Part 1 book gives gamers a great “What If” scenario for one of the PlayStation 2’s biggest success stories. The first comic ends just at the beginning of the plot of Jak 2, and a follow-up comic is being planned as well. A Quick Recap of Jak and Daxter and Jak II
In case you need a quick refresher on the source material for Eco Wars, Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy was released in 2001 on the PlayStation 2. It follows friends Jak and Daxter who travel to Misty Island against the advice of Samos the Green Sage and his daughter Kiera. While on the island, Daxter falls into a pit of dark eco, turning him into the fictional Ottsel animal (otter and weasel hybrid).
The duo heads back to Samos, who is the sage of all things green eco. He needs to get Daxter to Gol, the Sage of Dark Eco. To do this, they need to to travel across the land of the three other sages. As they arrive at each Sage’s hut, they find that the Blue, Green, and Red Sages are all missing. The team then learns that Gol has kidnapped them all in an attempt to open a dark eco silo and corrupt the world with the eco They defeat Gol but are unable to turn Daxter human again.
Jak II picks up with the four main characters launching themselves into a precursor gate that transports them to Heaven City. The four are split up, and Jak is taken to prison, where Baron Praxis performs dark eco experiments on Jak for two years before Daxter rescues him.
The rest of the story sees Jak wanting to get revenge on the Baron and joins the resistance group “The Underground,” who are looking to take out the Baron while also keeping the town safe from the creatures known as “Metal Heads” that are constantly attacking the city.
