The inaugural Illinois Comic Con event featured a mix of celebrity guests, comic creators, cosplayers, artists, vendors, and more! Cosplay was a central focus of the event, with multiple cosplay contests and three cosplay guest judges. Really enjoyed how the interview captured the crossover between theater and cosplay. That connection often gets missed in convention coverage but its huge for understanding how cosplayers approach character work. I noticed when she talked about gaming fandoms it reminded me of how certain game franchises have more elaborate costume requirements that push craftsmanship forward in interesting ways. The mermaid cosplay mention is fascinating because underwater photoshoots add whole layer of technical chalenge most people dunno about.
